The St. Elijah’s Monastery has been a sacred site for almost 1,500 years. It was a home to ancient Greek carvers described in the Bible. It also served as a shelter American troops deployed in Iraq at the beginning of the century.

The  so-called “Islamic State of Iraq and Levant” has been destroying Christian and Judaic Holy Sites — such as  Nineveh, Palmyra, Hatra and many others. They called it “cleansing” new Caliphate’s territories from “heretic” landmarks.
